The Tandaay High School has been made possible thru a Sangguniang Bayan resolution sponsored by Hon. NORIEL R. BERNALES, with resolution number 005-070-2000F. This was passed on during the 34th Regular Session held on October 13, 2000.
The said resolution respectfully requested the Provincial Government of Camarines Sur thru Gov. Luis R. Villafuerte to establish a Provincial High School at Tandaay, Nabua, Camarines Sur. It was approved by the honorable governor being known for his valuable support to the field of education. Finding it with merit, he requested the then Superintendent Dr. Corazon Z. Malaya for her vulnerable assistance in the completion of the requirements relevant to the opening of the school. Finally, it was opened June 2001 as an annex of Malawag High School.
The school is situated at barangay Tandaay since it is considered to be in the geographical and urban center of the area. Its feeders include San Vicente Gorong-Gorong, Duran, Dolorosa, San Roque Sagumay, Aro-Aldao, Tandaay and part of Topas and Inapatan. It was found out that no public secondary school would cater the elementary graduates according to the feasibility study conducted by then Municipal Councilor Noriel R. Bernales.
On its first year of operation, two rooms from the Bagong Lipunan Building of Tandaay Elementary School was utilized by the 176 first year high school students who were considered the pioneer batch of the school. The problem on the insufficient classrooms was resolved by the supportive barangay council by allowing the section C to be housed at the barangay chapel and the section D at the second floor of the barangay hall.
Through the initiative of the PTA, temporary classroom buildings were constructed using donated bamboo, anahaw leaves and poles, and hardware materials. Local government officials have also donated materials necessary for its construction.
On the second year of operation (2002-2003), it has accommodated three sections in the first year and four sections in the second year. All sections were housed in its respective rooms made of light materials. Presence of school canteen and a faculty room made of light materials was evident on the second year situated at the vacant lot at the back part of the elementary school.
On the third year of operation, there were four sections in the third year, 2 sections in the second year, and three sections in the first year. These were all accommodated in classrooms made up of native materials. Every opening of the school year, stakeholders take their collaborative effort in constructing classrooms for the growing needs of the students.
In the S/Y 2004-2005, the school completed its four year levels and has its first commencement exercises with 105 graduates on April 14, 2005. On this day, turnover of the lot title from the provincial government was also done on its very first built concrete building, the LRAY Learning Center.
Upon acquisition of the deed of donation, the school housed the students coming from third year and fourth year for the school year 2005-2006 in their respective classrooms constructed by parents thru rabus or bayanihan system. The school year 2006-2007 was remarkably the turning point for Tandaay Provincial High School. The time when super typhoon Reming hit the Bicol Region destroying all the native classrooms of the school.
Fortunately we have been recipients of different concrete school buildings. A one room Principal LED and one room DPWH Led buildings were constructed in 2006. This was followed by another 2 classrooms Principal Led building and 5-classroom Project CARE school buildings in the year 2007. On the year 2008, another one classroom Principal Led and one classroom DPWH Led buildings were constructed along with the 2-room L-RAY school building.
From 2014 to 2023 under the management of Mrs. Hermilinda Jornales Meniolas being the school principal and due to the influx of enrollees, a total of 3 2-storey DepEd-DPWH led buildings were constructed, 1 for Senior High School with 6 classrooms, 1 for Science Laboratory and 1 for ICT Computer Laboratory. There were also 2 units of Temporary Learning Shelter constructed, however, it was totally damaged during a typhoon in 2020. In 2021 another unit of TLS was constructed which at present serves as classroom of Grade 7 Daisy.
At present, there is a total population of 1089 students with Thirty-Five (35) Junior High School Teachers, Ten (10) Senior High School Teachers and Eight (8) non-teaching personnel and Four (4) Locally funded Teachers. The school is now managed by Mr. Nelson E. Belano, a Secondary School Principal I.
